English - Our Vision
English at Meadowside is driven through high-quality texts which link reading and writing with the wider curriculum. We aim to promote a love of reading for pleasure as soon as children start in EYFS. We encourage children to be creative and have the freedom to use their imaginations in their writing, ensuring opportunities are meaningful and purposeful. Children have a resilient attitude and strong sense of pride with their work.
Phonics: Our aim is for children to become confident, independent, and fluent readers by the end of KS1. Children access a high-quality phonics programme so they can consistently use phonics to read and write and access the full curriculum. We want children to have a love for books and see themselves as readers for both pleasure and purpose.
Speaking & Listening: We provide opportunities for discussion (dialogic talk) across all curriculum areas including assemblies. Our aim is for every child to be given a range of opportunities to develop their articulation, vocabulary, and confidence.
